Reflection on National Day Observance Ceremony @ Cheng San Community Centre

On Wednesday, 7 August 2013, we were involved in a parade held in the school. It was a Combined Uniform Group (UG) Parade and I met many new friends from other UGs. We did not have much time to train for the parade and it was quite a rush. Although the training is not as tiring as our daily training, we still try out best to maintain on our discipline. We had 2 days of rehearsal before the big day. Everything went on smoothly on the actual day. There was the St John's Ambulance Brigade (SJAB) & Girl Guides combined Contingent, and the National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC) and National Cadet Corps (NCC) combined Contingent, and our UG flags. It was a great feeling to be able to be involved in a parade representing NCC and I hope we are able to participate in such events again.

On Friday, 9 August 2013, we were involved in the National Day Observance Ceremony at Cheng San Community Centre. The ceremony comprises the same people that were in the Combined UG Parade, except there was the Air Scouts from Institute of Technical Education (ITE) College Central joining the parade.

We had two rehearsals for the parade, before the crowds started to flock in. When we got the signal to get ready to march off onto the road, everyone begin to help each other with our bearings, with a common goal to do our best, after what we have been training for.

As we march in, we put in our best shot, as this could be our last parade, and we want it to be memorable.

It was an interesting experience for me, as I get to see residents cheering for us and I feel the sense of pride in myself. We stood there throughout the entire ceremony

The parade ended off and this is the sense of achievement that we felt in our heart. It is not easy on the path to becoming and everybody coming together to train for a common purpose - To give it all that we can and not the mindset of getting it over and done with.

I can proudly say that the UG are part of a big family, always working together and helping each other. I feel such experience to bond with other UGs should be passed down to our Juniors so as to let them know that this is what we are.

Once a UG, always a UG!
